Mindfulness is a topic which has been in the media a lot in recent years, for very good reason. Mindfulness emphasises the here and now, rather than the past or future. On our holidays we tend to live more in the moment, but apart from these times we spend much our lives worrying about the past or things to come, and little time being in the present. Approaching life mindfully allows us to centre ourselves in the present and appreciate how much we have right now. Mindfulness is recommended in the NICE guidelines - - (2009) as a treatment approach for depression ‎, but this is just one aspect of wellbeing that mindfulness enriches: research shows that practising a mindful approach to life increases our mental and physical health, and it's never too late to start.
